All the Mondays you have to write on your blog…

Since I was a child I have had English classes and like all things, though you seem strange at first, gradually you like it. On my way learning I lived different experiences like camps, work with exchange teachers, discussion group, etc., but I never made a blog.

This caught my attention not only because I had never made a blog of any kind also for the characteristic of being a “long-term project” that involves more than hours in front of the blackboard.

At first I didn’t know how to name my blog also didn’t know the names of some partners but with blogs we got to know better our origins and preferences.

My skills for write are better than before (I think) or at least I can “think in English” faster, and the best is that happened without noticing because I was writing entertaining or interesting things about my own experience, also increased the number of words that at first it was a challenge now is not so much.

In the future the blog could be more visited for other people, not just us and because we have to do a comment, maybe a project with English speakers and they can do a blog in Spanish hahahaha.

All the topics have their interesting part, and the blog is one of the opportunities to express, continue saying what we feel and think.

SKILLS

For me was no so difficult choose my favorite subject Skills development and self‐care for professional practice or more simple Skills as everyone named.

 At first I saw this subject in my schedule and I had no idea what was, undoubtedly it sounded interesting but I did not investigate more. Time after I read the manual mechón, I knew what it was and what we will do there, then all I wanted was to have skills ( the subject and ´´real´´ skills too). But I can´t deny, that scared me a little bit, don´t have enough skills to do a good manual job.

When the subject began we a had a lot of round tables about dentistry, a kind of history of the social importance of health in general and oral health and history of dentistry. For many people this was bored but for me was good, I think is necessary have a commitment to history and society, and for that we need first know about the topics.

But finally what I like more about this course are the practical classes, there you can ¨ play at being dentist ¨, using the instrumental and working differently to all other classes, I learned a lot about dental work and still left me a lot to learn, but the best is it that I love <3

South sweet South

I really like south, I was born there and I think is a magical place with a lot of natural beauty and many green spaces (and a not so nice weather hahaha). There you feel relax and this is one of the principal reasons because people chose the south of Chile for vacations and too the magnificent places… and the fun.

We have a lot of wonderful places, Valdivia with the German legacy or Chiloé with legends and fishers but one of my favorites places in the south is Pucón, has the volcano Villarica and thermal springs in the winter, in the summer the lake and a lot of extreme sports and all the year this city have too good food and parties.

Another adorable place is Huilo-Huilo when you stay there you feel in a magical forest, this have a lot of ways where you can do hiking, a really nice hotel and other options, like houses in the trees, too.

I can´t finish my post without talking the Austral road, more far but a really good experience with a lot of adventures. I stayed there in 2014 with my music group and we take the “far way“ sailing for a lot of hours and going for really extremely roads but only of this way you know people and you can catch the essence of the south.

 

Pierre Fauchard: the 'Father of Modern Dentistry'

If a have to choose the biggest character of odontology immediately I think in the French Pierre 

Fauchard, the father of dentistry. I really knew of his existence recently but I think he is very important for the study and evolution of dentistry.

He was born in in Saint-Denis-de-Gastines, France, 1678. At the age of 15 he had his first contacts with dentistry in the French navy. Serving at sea, Fauchard observed many oral diseases; this motivated him in his next steps.

Three years later, Fauchard left the Navy and began working as a dentist, established his practice in the university town of Angers in Western France. For this he had to study handicrafts, techniques and instruments.

The standards of dental treatment were primitive in Fauchard's time; there were no formal training courses, almost nonexistent hygiene and no control.

In the hospital of the university Fauchard was considered a highly skilled surgeon, especially for made improvisations of dental instruments, adapting tools from watch makers, jewelers and even barbers, that he thought could be used in dentistry.

At that time existed a few books on the subject of dentistry so he made the decision to write a professional dentist's treatise based on his medical experience, Le Chirurgien Dentiste ("The Surgeon Dentist"), published in 1728. The book described basic oral anatomy and function, signs and symptoms of oral pathology.

With this Fauchard gave a new look to dentistry that last until our days.

I am a rare mix

The question about what is my favorite style of music is always difficult for me, for the simple reason that I like many different styles. Other people says I like rock or pop or cumbia, I usually say -I am a rare mix, but now I will try to explain this.

I love music since I can remember, spend hours and hours listening "cassettes" (that sounds very old hahha), singing and dancing, seeing too the TV channels of music videos. When I was 4 years appeared 31 minutes, I think this was my really own first favorite music, I knew all the songs that certainly still remember very well. Also I listened to the music that my parents listened, a Latin American style with exponents like Los Jaivas, Intillimani, Illapu, Congreso and others less known, I like this style of music, especially Chilean music, because represent our identity and the social message of our history like Chileans.

Other more trivial stages were pop (especially Justin Bieber, really loved that guy and I confess I still likes he a little bit (or more hahaha ). Other of my favorites actually is Ed Sheeran.

For long story I 'll name some artists of my varied playlist: Jack Johnson, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Birdy, Manuel Garcia, Amy Winehouse and A LOT MORE.

Choose my favorite photo is a difficult mission because I have a lot of pics, of landscapes, animals, family, friends etc. but now I don´t   have this pics with me, for this I choose one of my Facebook.

This photo was taken approximately in 2012 by my dad (he took me a lot of photos of my since I was a baby), in our vacations in Coñaripe, a town close to Villarrica, with a real natural connection beaches, thermal springs  and a low population. I remember one of these relaxed evenings where everything is read goods books, swim in the lake and eat delicious of the south.

Is one of my favorite photographs because the colors, the solitude, the pacific lake, the sun hiding give me a lot of peace, this photo transport me to this place and make me feel so good.

I hope come back there this summer and enjoy as usual with my family.

Mechoneo!!!

I heard a lot of times Wow! You are in the university of Chile is the worst mechoneo! I accept it I was a little bit afraid, especially because I´m not from Santiago and I don´t know the streets but the experience was not bad.

We wait for 2 weeks and one Monday the teacher says – Diagnostic test!! And in my mind sound a voice saying this is not truth, is MECHONEOOO!! In seconds a lot of classmates changing his clothes, doing some rarely things in the hair, putting double socks, totally chaos, is the day.

All the mechones tied in line dirtied (by the full of love partners of the second year) with paint, markers, legs of chicken, heads of fishes, sauces and more things what I don´t want remember we walk in the streets and then the worst part, the pool of rotten food and fish ( this smell stays for days)

We had to get $20000, I thought -this is impossible, but the most of the people was nice and quickly I obtained a lot of money and food, they give me watermelon, chocolate and a peach. Some Asiatic people filmed us and the newspaper takes us photos, this was so funny.

In the university I gave the money, with a hose some partners try to wash and untangle my hair (impossible) and with a classmate I went home, the last travel in metro without people squashing me.

At last was a fun experience!

Many things, just one device 

Hi everyone!! This week we have to choose one of our favorites gadgets and without doubts my favorite one is my smartphone.

This a really complete machine what you can use for a lot of things. Smartphones collects many useful (and not very useful) applications and functions.  In the past this was unthinkable, camera, calendar, tape recorder, calls, books, social networks, messaging, etc. all in one device.

My phone was a gift of my dad (one year ago approx.), he bought it because the old was too slow.

I use it every day, principally for know about university (u-cursos), social networks like Facebook and WhatsApp, call my parents and search little things; sometimes  I think is a little vice but you have to have self-control and then  is convenient.

A life without phones or smartphones wouldn’t be so comfortable like now but maybe would have more real communication, be “more humans”

I chose Dentistry!!

Choose what you will be for the rest of your life it´s a really difficult decision (most of the time) most if you are so young like us (or at least me). Sometimes is hard take a good decision and we can be wrong. Now I will tell the history of my choice…

Is not so complicated, all my life I want to be a dentist.  Most of the child had fear in the consulting room, but I was happy. Also I spend much time the dentist when I was child and adolescent. And is not only that, have the possibility to give a better style of life and a smile to persons who need it is so wonderful I really want do that!

This was my objective in the high school, had a good score in PSU and enters in this degree.And I did it! Now I´m studying dentistry in the university of Chile and I´m so happy of my decision :)

 Biography

            Yazmín Velásquez Alveal, I was born in Temuco, Chile, December 22 in 1997. I'm only child of Angélica and Erwin. I lived all my life in Loncoche, region of the Araucanía (untill now). 

         

          I was a curious and extroverted girl. At age of 4 (2001) I got into Holy cross college, there began my first steps in the world of the knowledge, too my interest for the ballet and music. They were good times new experiences, friends and a lot of time for games, fun, past time with the family, etc.

      The time happened fast , and I moved to Bicentenario Padre Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga  Highschool, again new things, experiences and friends but there is different I have to study. Interest for professions, PSU is coming, preuniversitario and more obligations, I´m not a child and sometimes is difficult to believe. But not all is work always we have time for fun, concerts, travels , etc.

                This year I have good news, all the effort give results, I will study dentistry in the Chile university. In January I moved to Santiago, and I´m here giving new steps in new roads.
